Outspan Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Olam International Limited, has inaugurated two new milk collection centres in partnership with Kano Dairy Co-operative Union on August 7, 2021.
This was confirmed by Praveen Paulsamy, the General Manager of Outspan Nigeria limited to be in line with its agriculture backward integration project (BIP) initiative to enhance and support the dairy value chain in line with the federal government’s plan for self-sufficiency in the industry, and further to an earlier signed an MOU with Kano Dairy Cooperative Union for milk collection in early 2021.
This initiative would boost local production of milk, its derivatives, and dairy products, which aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s aim when it limited the number of companies involved in importation of dairy products to only six companies in Nigeria – FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, Chi Limited, TG Arla Dairy Products Limited, Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Nestle Nigeria Plc, and Integrated Dairies Limited.
It was confirmed that each of the milk collection centres, is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that ensures the integrity of the raw milk produce. Outspan, which also upgraded a bulking centre as part of the activities, said they were going to provide transport equipment, including motorbikes and specially equipped tricycles that can effectively transport the raw milk to the end-users.
Outspan’s GM, reiterated Olam Group’s commitment to the dairy sector and outlined the company’s 4-pronged action plan, which includes the establishment of MCC’s, pasture development, productivity improvement initiatives, and capacity-building programme targeted at developing local talents.
